Pure Silica Sand for the Glass You Need to Make

Glass starts with sand, and the cleaner the sand, the clearer the result. Custom Abrasives supplies pure industrial silica sand to glass customers across the Gulf Coast, delivered directly by our own fleet.

The Basics of Silica Sand in Glass

Silica sand is the primary ingredient in a glass batch. In flat and float glass, the sand drives clarity and light transmission, so consistent chemistry matters from the first load to the last. Iron content is the key differentiator, because even small amounts of iron change the color and clarity of the finished glass. A steady grain size distribution also supports even batching and a uniform melt. Every glass operation has its own batch specification, and that specification should always lead the selection.

What Determines the Right Sand?

The right sand starts with your product. Clear architectural glass, container glass, and specialty glass each carry different purity requirements.

From there, three properties decide how well the sand fits: silica content, iron and other impurities, and grain size distribution. Custom Abrasives industrial sand is 99.5% silica and free of chlorides. We work from your specification and provide technical data sheets so your team can verify the fit before you order.

Matched to Your Batch House and Process

Consistent delivery matters as much as consistent chemistry. We look at:

  • Your batch specification, including iron limits and grain size range
  • How the sand will be received: dry bulk, bulk bag, and 50 lb bag delivery utilizing our own company-owned fleet
  • Storage and handling at your facility
  • Delivery timing that keeps your batch house supplied

Cost Per Melt, Not Price Per Ton

The lowest price per ton does not always give the lowest cost per ton of glass. Consistent sand can bring total cost down by:

  • Reducing batch adjustments
  • Keeping color and clarity steady
  • Limiting rejected or reworked product
  • Keeping your line supplied with dependable inventory and direct delivery
