Mineral Materials for Roofing Manufacturers

Roofing manufacturers need mineral products that arrive on time, in volume, and the same grade after grade. Custom Abrasives supplies roofing customers across the Gulf Coast from our production facilities in Louisiana and Mississippi, delivered by our own fleet.

The Basics of Roofing Granules

Roofing granules are mineral grains larger than sand and smaller than gravel. On asphalt shingles, they shield the asphalt from sun damage and add color. Without that layer, the asphalt breaks down faster, turns brittle, and cracks. Many mineral materials have been used for granules, including silica sand and slag. Every manufacturer has its own product specification, and that specification should always lead the selection.

What Determines the Right Material?

The right material starts with your product line and the performance you promise. From there, four properties decide how well it fits: particle size and grading, durability, color or appearance, and consistency from load to load.

Matched to Your Production and Supply Needs

Roofing plants run on steady volume. We look at:

  • How the material will be received: dry bulk, bulk bag, and 50 lb bag delivery utilizing our own company-owned fleet
  • Your storage and handling capacity
  • Delivery timing and volume
  • Dust control during transfer

Cost Per Square, Not Price Per Ton

The lowest price per ton does not always give the lowest cost per finished product. Consistent material can bring total cost down by:

  • Keeping production steady with dependable inventory
  • Reducing sorting, rework, and waste
  • Avoiding delays with direct delivery from our own fleet
